Everything you need to know as Winter Wonderland returns to Exeter this year

This year’s event promises to be 'brighter than ever' with activities for all ages
Winter Wonderland is set to return to Exeter’s Northernhay Gardens this month with a free-to-enter event that promises to be “brighter than ever”.
The event is understood to bring together a real all-weather ice rink, Santa’s grotto, a festive light trail, funfair rides, and seasonal food and drink.
“We’re delighted to be bringing Winter Wonderland back to Northernhay Gardens for another year,” said a spokesperson for the event.
“It’s become a festive tradition for so many families in Exeter, and with the festive light trail shining brighter than ever - and our real ice rink right in the heart of the city - we can’t wait to welcome everyone back for a magical Christmas.”
Exeter Winter Wonderland will take over Northernhay Gardens in the city centre from Friday, November 20 until Sunday, January 3 2027.
Santa’s grotto will open from November 28 to December 24. Children will be able to visit the elf workshop, post a letter to Santa, and receive a Christmas gift to take home from the man himself.
It’s also understood there will be appearances from “special guests”, such as the Grinch, throughout the season.
While the event is free to enter, all activities - except the festive light trail - do cost extra.
Admission for one child to Santa’s Grotto costs £15.50, and tickets for a 45 minute ice skating session cost £15 for adults and £12 for children.
Student discount and Blue Light Card offers are available.
The site is a four minute walk from Exeter Central Station for those planning to travel by public transport, or car parks including Northernhay Street and Guildhall are also nearby.
Opening times for Exeter Winter Wonderland are as follows:
- Monday to Thursday: 11am to 9pm
- Friday to Sunday: 10am to 10pm
Timings for individual activities vary.
Pre-booking is recommended for Santa’s grotto and ice skating sessions. You can purchase tickets or find out more information here.
