Santa cuts ribbon at Exeter Garden Centre's first Christmas department

Exeter Garden Centre has unveiled its first Christmas department, featuring six different displays and a range of decorations and gift.
Santa Claus took time away from the North Pole last weekend to cut the ribbon at Exeter Garden Centre’s first ever Christmas display.
Santa unveiled the new department at an opening event on Saturday, October 17, where customers could also enjoy free food and receive a free bauble.
The centre’s “Christmas Wonderland” offers six different displays with a mix of both traditional decorations and “more modern, bright, and jazzy” set-ups.
“We did our very best to provide something for all tastes and budgets,” said Darren Shepherd, centre manager at Exeter Garden Centre. “We understand that current cost of living challenges make preparing for Christmas and treating yourselves at Christmas slightly more difficult.
“We have our own brand range, called Fern, that will fit every budget, and we’ve opened the department in October so you have plenty of time to plan, buy, and execute your Christmas decorations at home.”
Customers will be able to purchase lights, decorations, artificial trees, winter plants, and gifts at the store on Sidmouth Road, Clyst St Mary.
“This is the first Christmas here for Exeter Garden Centre. We’ve been here for five months now and we’re very excited to be a part of the Exeter community,” said Mr Shepherd.
The store, owned by British Garden Centres, opened in May 2026, after the family-run firm acquired the site from St Bridget Nurseries.
“Christmas [for us] is about so much more than just decorations - it’s about bringing people together and making the season the best experience for everyone,” Mr Shepherd added.
“Exeter is the place to find the perfect present, inspiration for your home, or to come and make memories.
“We can’t wait to welcome everyone to our centre over the coming weeks.”
