Two Remembrance Sunday Services are set to take place in Exeter next week, with the City of Exeter's service in Northernhay Gardens and a Devon County Remembrance Service at Exeter Cathedral.

Two Remembrance Sunday Services are set to take place in Exeter next week, and all are invited to attend.

The City of Exeter’s service will take place in Northernhay Gardens, Exeter, on Sunday, November 8.

Military contingents will arrive at the garden’s war memorial from 10am, with the Lord Mayor, Councillor Gemma Rolstone arriving at 10:50am.

The Salvation Army Band, accompanied by the University of Exeter’s Chapel Choir, will start the event at 10:30am with a rendition of ‘Abide With Me’.

This will be followed by a march of service units to the memorial.

The Lord Lieutenant of Devon, Daid Fursdon, will then lead the Exhortation at 10:59am, and a rendition of the ‘Last Post’ will be performed by the Salamanca Band of the Rifles at 11am.

The band will then play ‘Reveille’ following two minutes of silence, and the Kohima Epitaph will be delivered by the Lord Lieutenant.

You can find a full order of service online, or paper copies will be available on the day.

In the afternoon of November 8, a Devon County Remembrance Service will be held at Exeter Cathedral.

Beginning at 4pm, the service will be accompanied by music from Exeter Cathedral Choir, and attended by military and veteran associates.

Commemorative wreaths will be placed in Exeter Cathedral’s Devon and Dorset Regimental Chapel, before being laid at the war memorial on Cathedral Green on Remembrance Day, Wednesday November 11.

All are welcome to both events, and there is no pre-booking required.
