Herd of cows in road cause M5 closure

Part of the M5 was closed in both directions this morning after a herd of cows entered the road, causing disruption to motorists.
A herd of cows on the M5 this morning has caused delays for motorists as the motorway was closed in both directions for around an hour.
It is understood a herd of around 10 cattle were found on the edge of the M5’s northbound carriageway this morning, Friday, October 30.
Traffic was held between J29 Exeter and J28 Cullompton from around 9:35am.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “A full closure of the M5 was put in place with the assistance of highways officers while the cattle were guided back into a field.
They were reported to be secure at around 9.50am.”
This is not the first time cows have been found on the M5. A herd of approximately 30 cows caused chaos after entering the motorway near Weston-Super-Mare on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.
Traffic on the M5 this morning, Friday October 30, between J29 and J28 is now “easing”, according to traffic monitoring site Inrix.
