Beat the boredom this half term with these rainy day activities in Exeter under £10

Exeter families can enjoy a range of free and low-cost activities this half term, including creative writing workshops, craft sessions and a 360-degree planetarium.
Half term is quickly approaching for families in Exeter, and so are reports of wet weather.
We’ve compiled a list of rainy day half term activities for kids under £10 each:
1. Pet Pals workshops
Pets at Home are offering “spook-tacular” workshops for kids aged four to 10 throughout half term.
As part of the event, which lasts around 45 minutes, children will learn how to spot when their pets are spooked and how to help them stay calm and comfortable.
Attendees will have the chance to get stuck into games and activities whilst they learn, and will take away a certificate, sticker, and colouring sheets.
Sessions take place daily from Saturday, October 24 to Saturday, October 31 at Pets at Home Exeter. There is no charge to attend but booking is essential. You can book tickets here.
2. Telling Tales: Creative Writing for Kids workshop
Exeter Library has organised a free creative writing workshop for children ages six to 11.
The “spooky” Halloween-themed session promises tricks, treats, and “great games and fun” to encourage your child to get writing.
The session will take place on Wednesday, October 28 at Exeter Library. Tickets are free but booking is essential. You can book here.
3. Witch Craft and Story Time
These two Halloween drop-in events, organised by Exeter Library, are free to attend with no booking required.
Children can take part in a “really simple” craft activity and make a witchy hat.
Library staff will also host a mini quiz show and read extracts from witch-themed books such as ‘Winnie the Witch’ and ‘Room on the Broom’.
To find out more details about the event, which takes place on Thursday, October 29, you can visit the Exeter Library website here.

4. Jack and the Beanstalk (sort of)
Advertised as “perfect for children, families, party monsters, and fans of noisy nonsense” this pantomime is an ideal way to spend a rainy afternoon - it’s panto, but not as you know it.
The show, “stuffed with songs, silliness, and surprises” runs on Monday, October 26, in the Exeter Phoenix auditorium.
Tickets are £6 for children and “pay what you can” for adults. There are performances at 11:30am and 2pm. The 2pm performance is relaxed. You can book tickets here.
5. Little City Halloween Mini Play sessions
Little City are bringing their award-winning role play city with a Halloween twist to Exeter this half term.
The 90 minute sessions will run throughout Wednesday, October 28 and Thursday, October 29 at Greendale Farm Shop, Exeter. For £5 per child, children under six can role play as grown ups in a “little city” of their own.
You can book tickets and find out more information here.
6. Cathedral-themed half term activity sessions
Exeter Cathedral is hosting twice-daily activity sessions over half term where children can make a range of “cathedral-themed” crafts with a local Exeter artist.
Exeter Cathedral says families will leave the session with a “beautiful” Autumn themed cathedral craft.
Tickets are £4, with adults going free. You can book your space here.

7. 360-degree Space Dome
Guildhall Shopping Centre promises an “out-of-this-world” adventure this October half term.
From Wednesday, October 28 to Saturday, October 31, the shopping centre will be home to a 360-degree planetarium.
It’s free to enter and there’s no pre-booking required - you can simply turn up and be “transported into the wonders of the universe”.

8. The Mushroom Show
A mushroom enthusiast and her puppet are bringing science, music, and interactive fun to the Royal Albert Memorial Museum in Exeter next week.
Suitable for ages five and up, the show aims to help children “discover how fungi grow, connect, and help the natural world”.
The show is brought to the museum by Scratchworks Theatre Company. There are two performances on Wednesday, October 28, and tickets are £5.50 each for both adults and children. You can book tickets here.

9. Little Feet, Big Beats: Halloween Special
Exeter Phoenix are hosting a “magical, movement-filled experience” for children and their parents this Halloween.
Children aged two to eight are invited to dance to Halloween-themed music, enjoy interactive games, and use props and costumes.
