The Cornish Bakery is set to open its doors in Exeter next month, bringing fresh pastries, new jobs and a community-focused approach to the city centre.
The independent bakery, which began in Mevagissey, Cornwall, will open on Monday, 17 November 2025, at 38 High Street, in the corner unit formerly occupied by Mountain Warehouse.

The new bakery will seat up to 46 people and create more than 15 year-round local jobs. As part of its commitment to becoming part of the Exeter community, the team will choose a local charity to support through fundraising and partnership work once the bakery opens.
Cornish Bakery already has successful branches in Sidmouth, Totnes and Taunton, and says Exeter is a natural next step.
Managing director Mat Finch said the team is excited to be investing in Exeter’s high street: “We are delighted to be opening in Exeter, a fantastic city full of energy and vibrancy. This new location represents an exciting opportunity for us to invest in the high street, restoring this unit for contemporary use as a high-end bakery.”
The opening is being welcomed as a boost to Exeter’s High Street: “We believe Exeter is a fantastic fit for Cornish Bakery and we look forward to becoming part of its thriving city centre,” says Mat.
In keeping with the bakery’s Cornish roots, the space will showcase artwork by Cornish designers A-Side and lighting by Cornwall-based maker Tom Raffield. An open bakery will allow customers to watch bakes being prepared, adding a theatrical element to the experience.
Customers will be able to enjoy Cornish Bakery’s award-winning pasties and sausage rolls, praised by food critic Giles Coren, alongside hand-roasted coffee and a variety of pastries and cakes.
The menu will include popular new creations such as the twice-baked pistachio croissant filled with homemade frangipane and pistachio cream, the shakshuka croissant with roasted peppers, sun-dried tomatoes and cheesy béchamel, and a Cornish raspberry crème brûlée pastry.
The bakery will open daily from 8am to 6pm from Monday 17 November and aims to become a regular stop for residents, commuters and visitors.
