The surveys are the next step in developing the Boniface Trail, a proposed 12km walking and cycling route that would connect Crediton railway station with Exeter St David's, passing through Smallbrook, Newton St Cyres and Cowley.

Surveys will be carried out on the A377 between Crediton and Newton St Cyres this month, as part of plans to develop a new walking and cycling route linking Crediton and Exeter.

The topographical surveys, which will gather detailed information about the road and surrounding land, are due to run from Monday 7 September to Wednesday 23 September.

Temporary traffic signals will be in place between the Tesco superstore roundabout in Crediton and Newton St Cyres during this period. The road will stay open, but Devon County Council has warned that delays are likely and has advised drivers to allow extra time or find an alternative route.

The surveys are the next step in developing the Boniface Trail, a proposed 12km walking and cycling route that would connect Crediton railway station with Exeter St David's, passing through Smallbrook, Newton St Cyres and Cowley. The trail was endorsed by Devon County Council's Cabinet in January.

Councillor Jacqi Hodgson, the council's Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Biodiversity, said the trail could offer a safer, more direct route between the two towns.

"The Boniface Trail has the potential to provide a safer and more direct walking and cycling connection between Crediton and Exeter, so we are pleased that plans are moving into their next stage," she said. "We have worked closely with local communities as the preferred route has been developed. These surveys will allow us to develop the design and understand how the trail could be delivered safely."
