Damage to St James Park after fire incident - Credit: Exeter City Football Club
Exeter City’s League One fixture against Burton Albion, scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed after a fire last week caused significant damage at St James Park.
The blaze, which broke out between the away end and the Adam Stansfield Stand, severely damaged the stadium’s control room.
Key matchday systems including the electricity supply to the Adam Stansfield Stand, emergency backup generator, public address and fire alarm systems, first aid facilities, and the stadium’s internal networks were all affected.

The fire also damaged the big screen and pitch-side perimeter boards.
Despite efforts from club staff, volunteers, and local businesses, Exeter City confirmed that repairs could not be completed in time to ensure the ground’s safety for the fixture.
In a statement, the club said: "Despite the extraordinary efforts of club staff, volunteers and local businesses, we are unable to complete the extensive repairs required, or to carry out the essential safety testing needed to ensure all systems are operating safely for our supporters and players.”
“Repair work will continue at pace as we aim to restore the stadium to full operation as quickly as possible. Everyone at Exeter City would like to thank our incredible supporters for their unwavering backing during this difficult time. We are stronger together."
A new date for the Burton Albion match will be announced in due course.
Supporters seeking refunds are advised to contact the club directly via phone, email, or the St James Park club shop.
The club has been crowdfunding to help cover repair costs ahead of an insurance claim and has been working around the clock to restore the stadium.
The Safety Advisory Group was involved in the decision to postpone the match.
Exeter City fans are now waiting for updates on when the fixture will be rescheduled, as repair teams continue work to bring the stadium back to full operation.
