Supporters across Devon are preparing to join a national movement this March as Christian Aid launches its 2026 "Changemakers Conference," marking the lead-up to the charity’s historic fundraising week.
While the main event will be held at St John’s Church in Waterloo, London, on Saturday, March 14, local volunteers are ensuring they don't miss out.
A dedicated watch party will be hosted at Christ Church in Braunton (EX33 2EA), allowing Devon residents to participate in the conference via a live stream.
This year’s appeal turns its spotlight toward communities in Kenya. Attendees will hear firsthand accounts of how the charity’s partners are working on the ground to combat poverty and the escalating effects of the climate crisis.
Patrick Watt, CEO of Christian Aid, is set to headline the event, alongside staff members who will detail how the funds raised in 2025 have already impacted vulnerable communities globally. The conference is designed to be more than just a retrospective; it serves as a springboard for the upcoming Christian Aid Week, which remains the UK’s longest-running fundraising week.
David Hart, the charity's Church Engagement and Fundraising Officer for the region, says the event is a vital boost for both long-term volunteers and newcomers.
"The conference is a chance to encourage and inspire local people and churches who so faithfully support Christian Aid’s work," Mr. Hart said. "It’s also a great opportunity for newer supporters to find out a bit more about how they can give, act, and pray during the year."
How to join
The Braunton watch party will run from 10.30am to 2pm. The event is open to anyone interested in fundraising, campaigning for climate justice, or learning more about global debt issues.
For those unable to make it to Braunton or London, the charity is also offering a digital option for supporters to stream the conference from their own homes.
