Founded nearly 975 years ago, Exeter Cathedral is one of the UK’s most significant examples of Gothic architecture.

During her visit, Miriam learned about its rich history and intricate design, before viewing highlights from the cathedral’s Treasures Exhibition.

Among the artefacts on display is the Exeter Book, a 10th-century manuscript widely regarded as the oldest surviving collection of English poetry.

The actress also explored the Cathedral’s Library & Archives, which house centuries of records, and paused to watch the resident stonemasons at work, continuing the building’s centuries-old tradition of craftsmanship.

Miriam Margolyes is currently touring the country with speaking events linked to her memoirs and television projects, but took time out in Exeter to connect with the city’s cultural heritage.

Exeter Cathedral, which draws thousands of visitors each year, offers guided tours, concerts, exhibitions and services, attracting people from across the UK and abroad.

Her visit comes as the cathedral continues to display its historic collections through new exhibitions and guided tours.
