Surprise boost for Exeter Library

Libraries Unlimited South West, a charity that provides community libraries across Devon, has receives a donation of £9,531 from the Morrisons Foundation.

The funding from the charitable arm of the supermarket has covered the costs of creating two innovative 'sensory zones' at the library in Exeter, one for children aged 0-7, the other for 8-12 year olds.

Rachel Payne, Business Development and Fundraising Manager, Libraries Unlimited said: “The generous donation from the Morrisons Foundation will help us create an exciting new interactive feature for the new children’s library;  something playful and creative that will spark imaginations and encourage children to tell their own stories.

“We’re exploring ideas with local creative partners to develop an installation that inspires young writers and gives families new ways to engage with reading, writing and play.”

Designed by children, the new sensory zones will offer flexible, engaging, spaces for children with varying needs/learning styles, foster independence, promote literacy and build confidence giving them the best start in life.

David Scott, Morrisons Foundation Trustee said: “I’m thrilled that we’ve been able to support such a wonderful project for Libraries Unlimited.  The two new children’s zones in Exeter will make a huge difference to the lives of young people for many years to come.”

The Morrisons Foundation was set up by Morrisons supermarket in 2015 and awards grants for charity projects which help improve people’s lives.  Since launching, over £45 million has been donated to hundreds of charities across England, Scotland and Wales.
