Exeter secures global top 30 place

The University of Exeter has risen into the global top 30 in an influential environmental and social impact ranking.

Exeter is ranked 30th overall in the QS Sustainability Ranking 2024, which recognises the steps universities worldwide are taking to tackle the greatest Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) challenges. The University was also placed 15th= in Europe, and 10th= in the UK.

The rankings, which have been announced today (December 5th 2023), are calculated using publicly available information. Information has also been previously submitted by universities to QS in relation to sustainability goals.

The rankings cover three categories – Environmental Impact, Social Impact, and Governance.

Exeter’s highest individual ranking was 2nd globally for Health and Wellbeing, which forms part of the Social Impact lens – in recognition for its action and research into health and wellbeing.

The University also secured joint 14th place in Knowledge Exchange, joint 15th for Environmental Research, and joint 29th for its Equality work.

Speaking about the results, Professor Lisa Roberts, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Exeter said: “We are absolutely delighted to have made such a positive advancement in these important global rankings.

“To be ranked in the top 30 globally is a significant achievement and reflects the outstanding and world-leading research and education activities in sustainability conducted across our campuses."
