One of the world’s largest and most expensive private vessels has arrived in Torbay this morning

One of the world’s largest and most expensive private vessels has arrived in Torbay this morning, taking up a prominent position off the South Devon coast.

The 133.9m (439ft) superyacht Serene cruised into the bay at approximately 10:00 GMT, following a voyage from the Netherlands. The vessel is currently situated between Haldon Pier and the waters below the Imperial Hotel, where it is clearly visible to onlookers in both Torquay and Paignton.

The impressive yacht is owned by the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman.

A 'floating palace'

Built by the Italian shipyard Fincantieri and delivered in 2011, Serene was once ranked among the ten largest yachts in the world. With an interior designed by the renowned Reymond Langton Design, the ship features seven decks and over 4,500 square metres of luxury living space.

Industry experts value the vessel at approximately $500m (£395m), with its original purchase price thought to be between €350m and €500m.

The ship is famously equipped with high-end amenities, including two helipads, and an indoor climbing wall.

High operating costs

The presence of the vessel in the English Riviera highlights the scale of global maritime wealth. It is estimated that simply maintaining the Serene costs between $25m and $35m every year in operating expenses.

It is not currently known if the Crown Prince or any guests are on board during the vessel's stay in Devon.
