EXHIBITION

Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience 16–31 October

Step inside the world of Vincent van Gogh in this mesmerising, high-tech spectacle. More than 300 of the artist’s works are brought to life through vivid projections, sound and light - from The Starry Night to Sunflowers and Café Terrace at Night. With a specially curated soundtrack and swirling digital colour, this is a fresh, all-sensory way to experience one of art’s most tormented geniuses. Westpoint Exeter, 10am - 7.30pm. 

THEATRE / COMEDY

Sh!t-faced Shakespeare®: Hamlet 18 October

To mark 15 riotous years, the world-touring troupe brings its brilliantly chaotic twist on Hamlet to the stage. Each night, one professional Shakespearean actor takes to the boards after several hours of deliberate inebriation. The rest of the cast must improvise their way through the ensuing carnage - and the results are as unpredictable as they are hilarious. Expect sword fights, soliloquies and slurred asides in this anarchic take on the Bard’s greatest tragedy. 7.30pm at Exeter Corn Exchange. 

CELEBRATE

Diwali 19 October

Join the University of Exeter’s annual Festival of Lights, a joyful celebration of colour, food and fireworks on the Streatham campus. The day begins at 2.30pm with a traditional Puja in the Forum, followed by stalls, storytelling and hands-on workshops - from diya painting and henna tattoos to dance and crafts. As dusk falls, students take centre stage for the Diwali Spectacular at 5.30pm, with performances of music and dance. Fireworks round off the celebrations at 6.45pm behind the XFI building. A small fee applies for some workshops and food.

Susie Dent: Word Perfect 19 October

The Countdown lexicographer and 'Britain’s best-loved wordsmith' takes audiences on a witty, enlightening tour through the quirks of the English language. From the origins of murder of crows and parliament of owls to the endless vocabulary of drunkenness, Susie Dent’s stories reveal how gloriously eccentric our mother tongue can be. 2pm at Exeter Northcott Theatre.

Titanic: The Exhibition On now until 31 October

Relive the story of the world’s most famous ship, from its Belfast beginnings to its tragic end. Using music, sound effects and recorded voices, this immersive exhibition takes visitors through the ship’s construction, voyage and rediscovery on the ocean floor. A free audio and text guide brings the Titanic’s passengers and crew vividly to life. Varying times at Westpoint Exeter.
