Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed to Exeter Today that officers were called to reports of a lorry fire on the northbound carriageway of the M5 between junctions 30 and 29, near Exeter.
The northbound carriageway has been closed at junction 30 while emergency services deal with the incident.
Police, the fire service and National Highways remain at the scene, and the situation is ongoing.
Drivers are being advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

1.20pm - Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue have advised local residents and businesses to keep their windows closed.
12.42pm - National Highways confirm the lorry fire being dealt with by Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue. There are long delays of 30 minutes in the area.
