Gary Caldwell was left frustrated
Exeter City manager Gary Caldwell admitted his side’s performance was “not good enough” after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Rotherham United at the New York Stadium.
Denzel Hall’s goal six minutes before the interval proved decisive, with the Grecians unable to find a way back despite improving after the break.
“We spoke a lot about starting the game with the moment we’re in, the moment they’re in, and we did the exact opposite,” Caldwell said post-match. “We weren’t brave enough, we didn’t pass the ball well enough, we gave them all the energy they needed. It was too little, too late in the second half when we got better.”
The result continues Exeter’s inconsistent run of form, with victories regularly followed by defeats. Caldwell acknowledged the issue and stressed the need for improvement.
“We’ve not found the formula yet of backing a performance with another performance,” he added. “We’ve got to go back to work this week and try again, like we’ve done so far this season.”
