Exeter City were busy on transfer deadline day, completing three signings to strengthen Gary Caldwell’s squad ahead of the autumn fixtures.

The most experienced addition is defender Danny Andrew, who joins permanently from Stockport County until the end of the 2025/26 season. The 34-year-old has clocked up more than 570 senior appearances during a 17-year career, spending the majority of the last decade in League One. Comfortable across the left side of defence, Andrew arrives match-fit, having featured for Stockport at the weekend. Caldwell described him as “a big signing” who brings vital know-how and leadership.

City also secured the loan signing of winger Carlos Mendes Gomes from Bolton Wanderers. The 26-year-old Guinea-Bissau international has Championship experience with Luton Town and previously starred for Morecambe, helping them win promotion from League Two in 2021. Known for his pace and flair, Mendes Gomes adds a fresh attacking threat. Caldwell said: “He’s an exciting signing for the club… a player that’s scored goals in League One and played in big games.”

The third deal saw 20-year-old Akeel Higgins join on loan from West Bromwich Albion for his first taste of senior football. The versatile winger, who can also play centrally, made his senior debut in last season’s FA Cup. Caldwell praised Higgins as a “direct, quick player” who will bring energy and a new dimension to the attack.

The three arrivals take Exeter’s total to 13 signings during a busy transfer window, underlining the manager’s determination to build depth and balance into the squad. With league and cup campaigns ramping up, fans will be eager to see how the fresh faces slot in when City return to action at St James Park.
