Exeter City will be looking to continue their strong form as they welcome Mansfield Town to St James Park for a 7.45pm kick-off on Tuesday night.
City are unbeaten in their last three matches, picking up five points and keeping back-to-back clean sheets. Saturday’s 2-0 win over Shrewsbury Town saw the Grecians put in an assured performance, and they’ll be keen to carry that momentum into this rescheduled fixture.
Originally set for October and then January, the match was postponed due to international call-ups and City’s involvement in the FA Cup. Tickets purchased for those dates remain valid for Tuesday night’s encounter.
Mansfield head to SJP sitting just above Exeter in the table, having drawn away at Stevenage on Saturday. The Stags started the season strongly but have found themselves in patchy form in recent weeks.
Despite their dip, Nigel Clough’s side remain dangerous, with the likes of Jordan Rhodes and Will Evans providing a threat in attack. City will need to stay solid at the back to keep their recent defensive momentum going.
“We need the same energy and support on Tuesday night,” said Gary Caldwell. “It was a great performance against Shrewsbury, and everyone – the players, the supporters – turned up. We need to do the same again against a team around us in the table.”
City have yet to face Mansfield this season, with the return fixture still to come. Caldwell’s side will be keen to make a statement and build on their recent upturn in form.
With confidence growing and momentum on their side, the Grecians will be eager to put on a show in front of the home fans. As always, a strong atmosphere at SJP could make all the difference as City look to claim another crucial three points.
