Exeter draw at Reading but Argyle beaten by Hull

Exeter City and Plymouth Argyle are both facing up to a late scramble for survival after tough midweek fixtures on the road.

Exeter City’s fall into trouble has been very different to their fierce rivals down the road, with a rotten 2025 seeing the Grecians slip down the Sky Bet League One table.

In that context, Tuesday’s 0-0 draw at play-off chasing Reading will go down as a decent result. The game was one to forget but Exeter will not mind one jot, as they maintain a four-point cushion above the relegation places.

The Pilgrims have been locked in a difficult battle against relegation from the Sky Bet Championship and, after the courageous display in the FA Cup at Manchester City, Argyle looked weary in going down to a 2-0 loss at Hull City.

After a dreary first period, the hosts grabbed a decisive lead when Joe Gelhardt pounced on a loose ball to sweep home the opener, and Argyle’s tired race was run when Abu Kamara added a second on the hour, although the Greens were understandably upset at the absence of an offside flag.

While the Greens are now six points from safety, they still have ten games to save their league status and Head Coach Miron Muslic has already demonstrated a fine ability to give this team the confidence to defy all odds.

Torquay United are looking odds on for at least a play-off position in the National League South following their 3-1 win at Chippenham Town.
