The Dartmouth Higher Ferry service has been suspended due to adverse weather conditions, with strong winds affecting the area.
The disruption comes as the Met Office issued a yellow wind warning for South Devon, in place until 4pm today (Tuesday). South-easterly winds have been turning strong and gusty, with gusts of 45–55mph widely expected, and up to 60–65mph possible on exposed hills and coastal areas.
Ferry operators said the service between Dartmouth and Kingswear was halted on safety grounds and will resume once conditions improve. Updates will be provided when it is safe to restart crossings.
The Dartmouth Higher Ferry forms part of the A379 between Plymouth and Torbay, offering a three-minute shuttle crossing and saving motorists up to 25 miles or around 50 minutes on a round trip. The service normally operates seven days a week, all year round.
The Met Office said winds are expected to ease once a band of heavy rain clears later today.
