First defeat for Chiefs women as City draw

Exeter City battled from a goal and a man down to pick up a valuable point away to in form Stevenage.

After Jack Aitchison saw first-half red for a second yellow card, Yanic Wildschut cancelled out Carl Piergianni's header just two minutes into the second half, with the Grecians then defending gallantly to ensure the game was not lost.

Manager, Gary Caldwel,l said: "The effort, the commitment, the character the players showed... we were absolutely outstanding in the second half in terms of working for each other, fighting for each other, fighting for this football club, putting our bodies on the line," Gary said. 

"We showed quality to counterattack when we were running out of legs... I can't speak highly enough of the players I thought they were absolutely outstanding and they thoroughly deserved the point.

"The way we defended the box was back to early season form, we didn't really look like conceding, even down to ten men and facing wave after wave of attack."

Meanwhile, a cruel bounce of the ball saw Exeter Chiefs Women suffer this first Allianz PWR league defeat as Gloucester-Hartpury scored a try in the 74th minute to take the win at Sandy Park today.

However, the damage had already been done after Chiefs leaked 19 points in the first 30 minutes, giving the home side a hill to climb.

Final score: Exeter Chiefs Women 27 - Gloucester-Hartpury Women 31.
