A brand new boating and watersports festival is set to arrive in Exeter next spring, bringing boats, equipment and adventure activities to the city for the first time.
Boatfest West will take place at Exeter Racecourse on the weekend of 11–12 April 2026, forming part of a new national series of events aimed at making boating more accessible and affordable.
Organisers say the festival is designed for everyday boaters and watersports enthusiasts who want a big event closer to home, without the high costs often associated with large-scale boat shows.
The Exeter event was one of three being launched across the country under the Boatfests 2026 banner, alongside sister festivals in Portsmouth and Cheshire.

Unlike traditional maritime shows held at large coastal venues, Boatfest West will be based inland at Exeter Racecourse, chosen for its easy road and rail links and its central position within the South West.
The organisers say the aim is to take boating directly to potential customers, particularly those living in Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Dorset, Avon and South Wales.
Visitors will be able to explore a wide range of exhibits, including new and used boats, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, watersports gear, chandlery, accessories and adventure holiday ideas.
There will also be demonstrations, advice sessions and family-friendly entertainment across the two-day event.
A spokesperson for Boatfests said: “Boatfests 2026 is all about bringing boating to you. We want to create fun, welcoming events that are affordable and easy to get to.
“By choosing Exeter Racecourse as the location for Boatfest West, we’re making sure people across the region can enjoy a fantastic day out without having to travel long distances to the coast.”
In a bid to keep the festival as accessible as possible, tickets will be free for anyone who registers in advance, with a £10 charge for those buying on the door.
Exhibitors from across the marine and watersports industries are expected to attend, showcasing everything from small trailer boats to the latest outdoor adventure equipment.
Organisers believe Exeter is the ideal host city for the event.
“Exeter is a small city that packs a big punch,” the spokesperson added. “It’s vibrant, historic and perfectly located for people across the West Country. We’re excited to bring something completely new to the area.”
The festival is also expected to provide a boost for local businesses, attracting visitors from across the South West and beyond.
With Exeter Racecourse located just off the A38 Devon Expressway and only minutes from the city centre, organisers say the venue offers the perfect mix of accessibility and space.
Boatfest West forms part of a wider push to encourage more people to take up boating and watersports, with the overall Boatfests programme being marketed to a UK-wide audience.
Further details about exhibitors, activities and ticket registration will be released over the coming months.
