Busy Exeter route blocked as collision causes heavy traffic and long delays

Sidmouth Road near Exeter is currently blocked in both directions following a road traffic collision involving two vehicles, causing significant disruption for motorists this afternoon.

 


The incident occurred between Bathern Road and Apple Lane, where queues have quickly built up as emergency services attend the scene.

 


A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving two cars on Sidmouth Road, Exeter at around 3.15pm today, Monday 1 December.”

 


“No serious injuries have been reported. The cars are awaiting recovery. The incident is ongoing.”

Traffic in the area remains heavily congested, and drivers are being advised to avoid Sidmouth Road where possible and seek alternative routes while the scene is cleared.

 


The road has been closed in both directions as a safety precaution while recovery vehicles make their way to the location.

 


Local residents and commuters heading toward the city centre and surrounding villages should expect delays as the situation continues to develop.

 


Motorists are urged to drive cautiously and allow extra time for their journeys.
