Exeter’s Cowick Barton pub will host its annual Bonfire Night fireworks display this evening (Wednesday 5 November), with organisers expecting hundreds of residents to attend the popular community event.

The long-running celebration, held in the grounds of the historic pub on Cowick Lane, has become a local tradition for families across Exeter. The event will feature a fireworks display, live music, food and drink stalls, and a range of family activities, including traditional games and face painting.

Organisers said the event is one of the highlights of the year for both staff and the local community: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming everyone to Cowick Barton for our annual fireworks night,” a spokesperson said.

“It’s always a brilliant evening for the whole community. Visitors can expect a fantastic fireworks display, great local stalls, and live music throughout the night. Events like this bring people together and really capture that community spirit we love here at the pub.”

Live performances will run from 6pm to 11pm, featuring local musicians Morning After and Jamie McGowan. Food from the pub’s outdoor grill and seasonal drinks will also be available throughout the evening.

The event is supported by ML Pub Company & Coastal Taverns, alongside Mark and Laura Jephcott, Tony Brierly, Graham Cary, and pub manager Oak Mackay.

Local residents said the annual event has become a key date in the city’s calendar, helping to strengthen community ties.

Sarah Jenkins, who lives nearby, said:“It’s a really well-run event and something we look forward to every year. The fireworks are fantastic, and it’s great to see families from all over Exeter come together.”

Tom Bennett, a St Thomas resident, added: “Cowick Barton’s fireworks night is one of those community events that everyone in the area knows about. It’s family-friendly, well-organised, and a great way to celebrate Bonfire Night locally.”

With mild weather expected and final preparations underway, tonight’s fireworks display at Cowick Barton looks set to continue a long-standing Exeter tradition, marking Bonfire Night 2025 with food, music, and a strong sense of community.
