Princesshay has announced plans for its biggest-ever Christmas celebration, with the Christmashay Village returning to Exeter city centre from Friday 14 November for five weeks of local shopping, food and festive entertainment.

This year’s festivities will include an expanded Christmas market, live performances, a pop-up Mistletoe Bar and the return of Santa Sundays across the city centre.

Visitors can enjoy a mix of local traders, handmade gifts, crafts, candles, bakes, and art, spread across Princesshay Square, Bedford Street and the main mall.

For many Exeter residents, the return of the Christmas Market marks the unofficial start of the festive season.

Local resident Amy Goss, from St Thomas, said: “I absolutely love the Christmas Market, it really gets me into the festive mood. Last year it felt so special to have local traders in the heart of the city, and it’s great to see it growing this year. I always come in with friends for the lights and a mulled wine at the Mistletoe Bar.”

David Squires, who lives in Heavitree, added: “It’s great that Princesshay keeps investing in events like this. The Christmas lights and market bring so much life to the city centre, especially for families. We make a point to visit every year - it’s become part of our Christmas tradition.”

The celebrations begin officially on Thursday 20 November, when the Worldbeaters SPARK! drummers light up the city with their high-energy, illuminated street performances at 5pm, 6pm and 7pm to launch late-night shopping.

Princesshay Centre Manager Jon Walton said: “Christmas is such a special time at Princesshay, and this year we’re thrilled to be offering even more for our visitors.”

“It’s my first Christmas here, and I can’t wait to see the centre come alive with festive lights, music and local traders. We’re proud to be part of what makes Exeter a brilliant place to visit in the lead-up to Christmas.”

Santa Sundays also return this year, with Father Christmas and his elf meeting families under the glass canopy on 30 November, 7, 14 and 21 December, between 10:30am and 4:30pm. A £2.50 donation to Vranch House, Princesshay’s Charity of the Year, is suggested for a photo with Santa, with each child receiving a jingle bell to take home.

Princesshay’s Christmas lights will shine throughout the season, featuring eco-friendly displays, recycled materials, and thousands of warm LED bulbs. Highlights include Santa’s Sleigh, Angel Wings, and the giant walk-through JOY letters, plus an 8-metre Christmas tree in Princesshay Square.

The popular Charity Christmas Tree Festival returns to Bedford Street, featuring 35 decorated trees representing local charities and community groups.

Shops will open late every Thursday from 20 November to 18 December, with trading until 8pm - perfect for evening browsing, festive food, and supporting local traders.
