Exeter Cathedral was filled with pride, applause and celebration on Friday 17 October as over 140 Exeter College students marked the completion of their higher-level programmes, joining family, friends and staff to celebrate the Class of 2025.
The day began with a procession through Exeter city centre as graduates in caps and gowns made their way past cheering supporters lining the streets, which is an increasingly cherished tradition that brings the city together to recognise the achievements of its students.
Inside the cathedral, students from a wide range of subjects were honoured. This year’s graduates completed programmes across sectors such as Data Science, Health and Social Care, Teaching, Aircraft Engineering, Fitness and Coaching and more.

These Exeter College courses are delivered in partnership with universities and awarding bodies across the UK, helping to ensure that Exeter continues to grow as a centre of educational excellence for the wider region.
The Principal and CEO of Exeter College, John Laramy CBE, congratulated graduates and thanked the families, friends and staff who supported them along the way.
“Many of you have undertaken your studies alongside raising a family, working and other commitments,” he said. “Today marks a truly remarkable achievement, and we are grateful for the contribution you have made to the Higher Education community at Exeter College.”
Among those celebrating was Shrika Palakaden, who gained a Level 5 CELTA qualification, enabling her to teach English to speakers of other languages.
She praised the flexibility of the course: “One of the best things about studying at College has been the flexibility. We’re only in class one day a week, which meant I could continue working. It has been amazing to be back in the classroom, an unforgettable experience.”
Aircraft Engineering graduate Tom Drawert, who studied for his Foundation Degree awarded by Kingston University, was cheered on by his family from the cathedral pews. “It was tough with both the university course and the Civil Aviation Authority exams,” he said, “but I’m very happy today. The teachers were the best part—they always helped us through the tougher parts.” Tom now hopes to begin his career at a regional airport.
For apprentice graduate Samatar Osman, the experience has already opened doors. He completed the Level 4 Junior Management Consultant Apprenticeship. “This apprenticeship helped me land a full-time position,” he explained. “I was able to go to different placements and learn how to take projects over the line. All of this helped me secure my new post with Great Western Railway as a Position Delivery Manager.”
Guest speaker Julian Tagg BEM, President of Exeter City Football Club and Chairman of Exeter City Community Trust, addressed the graduates with warmth and local pride.
“My connection with Exeter College is the reason I feel particularly honoured to be here today,” he said. “Exeter College has given you a start, just as it did for me. You can rightfully take pride in being part of Exeter’s story.”
