Torquay’s historic St Michael’s Chapel is opening its doors to the public on Wednesday 1 April from 2pm to 4pm, offering a rare chance to explore one of the town’s oldest buildings.
The free event is being organised by Torbay’s Oddfellows, with local historians Keith Holman and Kevin Dixon on hand to guide visitors around the chapel and the adjacent Meteorological Station. They will also be available to answer questions about the medieval site and its fascinating history.
Kevin Dixon said: “The ancient chapel is usually locked up, so this is a great opportunity to access one of Torquay’s oldest buildings and an important part of our heritage. All are welcome to join us and experience the space as a place of reflection.”
Access to the site is via the pathway to Chapel Hill Pleasure Grounds in Barton Road, opposite Torre Station.
This event promises a unique insight into Torquay’s heritage, combining historical storytelling with the chance to experience a centuries-old building that is rarely open to the public.
