Beer among UK's best value beaches

Beer is a good option for thrifty holidaymakers

Beer is a good option for thrifty holidaymakers

Holidaymakers heading to Devon this summer can enjoy some of the UK’s best-value seaside escapes at Beer Beach and Broadsands Beach.

New research from Monzo has revealed the cheapest and priciest places in Britain to rent a chair by the sea, with both Devon spots making the list of beaches where just £3 secures a place on the sand – a fraction of the £10.50 charged at Bournemouth.

Beer Beach, framed by dramatic cliffs and traditional fishing boats, is a much-loved stop on the Jurassic Coast. Over in South Devon, Broadsands Beach near Paignton is known for its sweeping sands, calm waters, and family-friendly vibe – making it a popular choice for locals and visitors alike.

Both beaches rank alongside Cornwall’s St Ives Harbour and Whitby in Yorkshire as some of the most affordable in the UK. The only cheaper option was Saltburn Beach in North Yorkshire, where a day’s hire costs just £2.50.

At the other end of the scale, Bournemouth Beach tops the chart at £10.50 a day, followed by Worthing in West Sussex (£10).

The study highlights how widely prices vary for a simple seaside luxury. For those in Devon, though, Beer and Broadsands prove you don’t need to spend big to enjoy a classic day at the beach.
