A fourth man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a 24-year-old man in Exmouth.
Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed that seven people are now in custody in connection with the incident. In addition to the latest arrest, two men and a woman have been detained on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Police were called at around 12.45am on Saturday 31 May after reports that a man had been assaulted and found in the garden of a property in Ashfield Close.
Emergency services attended the scene but, despite the efforts of paramedics, the man was pronounced dead. Police say he had suffered a single stab wound. He has not yet been formally named, but his next of kin have been informed.
Two men in their 20s were initially arrested at an address in Hawthorn Grove, Exmouth. A third man, also in his 20s, was later arrested in Exeter on suspicion of murder.
A fourth man has since been arrested on suspicion of murder, and three further suspects – two men and a woman – have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Warrants of further detention have been granted by Exeter Magistrates’ Court, allowing police to hold the first three suspects for an additional 36 hours while enquiries continue.
Detective Inspector Guy Biggar, from the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “We would like to again thank the local community for their support and patience with this investigation.
“Officers will remain in the area as our enquiries continue. If anyone has any concerns, please speak to our officers.
“We would like anybody with information or relevant footage who has not yet spoken to us to contact 101 or visit our website quoting 50250136873.”
