With just under two months to go until the launch of KLM’s new daily service from Exeter Airport to Amsterdam Schiphol on 30 March, early booking figures indicate strong demand for both outbound and inbound travel.

The new route is set to boost connectivity for the South West, making it easier for local travellers to access global destinations while also attracting international visitors to the region. Exeter Airport last had a direct service to Amsterdam nearly five years ago, making this a significant development for regional connectivity.

KLM reports that the top 10 source countries for inbound bookings include the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Belgium, the United States, Switzerland, Norway, Australia, Finland, and France.

Stephen Wiltshire, Managing Director of Exeter Airport, welcomed the strong response: “We are delighted with the interest in KLM’s new service, which will provide greater choice and connectivity for travellers to and from the South West. The demand we are seeing highlights the vital role of regional airports in supporting both leisure and business travel.”

For outbound passengers, the Netherlands takes the top spot as the most booked destination. Other popular choices with convenient connections via Amsterdam include Germany, Croatia, Norway, New York (USA), Italy, France, Sweden, Hungary, Denmark, and Poland.

Hong Kong has also emerged as a key destination, benefiting from a short onward connection in Amsterdam and an overnight return stay.

Jerome Salemi, General Manager for UK & Ireland at Air France-KLM, commented: “The early booking trends are extremely promising. Amsterdam Schiphol is one of the world’s leading hubs, and this new route reinforces our commitment to providing global connectivity from UK regions.”

The flights will be operated by KLM Cityhopper using an 88-seat Embraer 175 regional jet. Departures from Amsterdam to Exeter are scheduled for 16.15 local time, with return flights from Exeter at 17.20 local time, operating daily.

Passengers will have the choice between Economy and Business Class, with Premium Comfort available on long-haul intercontinental flights.
