Lapford Dog Club has donated £500 to North Devon-based charity K9 Focus, supporting its rescue, rehoming, and rehabilitation efforts for cats and dogs.
The funds were raised through the club’s Christmas raffle and annual charity calendar, which featured member dogs photographed by Devon pet photographer Fiona Crawford. The raffle included dog-themed prizes such as beds, toys, and treats, while the calendar showcased dogs like Tarka the Flat-Coated Retriever and Margot the Dachshund puppy.
Sara Thurgood, chairperson of Lapford Dog Club, explained the club’s choice: “We picked K9 Focus as our charity this year because of the amazing work they do. When North Devon Animal Ambulance had to close, we wanted to support a local charity in that area specifically.”
K9 Focus founder Lynne Hall expressed gratitude, noting that the donation will help cover essential costs like veterinary bills. “The cost of vaccinations is now around £90, and our vet bills from October to December 2024 were just over £9,000. Without fundraisers like this, we wouldn’t survive,” she said.
The charity has an exciting year ahead, with plans for seven dog shows, a bingo night, a tattoo day, and a music night in 2025. They are also launching a fundraising pack for supporters to organise their own events.
