Devon and Torbay residents can enjoy affordable bus journeys this January with the launch of £1 Super Saturdays. Running on the 11th, 18th, and 25th of January 2025, the initiative offers £1 single fares on all bus services in the region.
Supported by the DevonBus Partnership, including Devon County Council, Torbay Council, and bus operators, the scheme aims to promote bus travel for leisure and exploration, showcasing Devon’s picturesque coast and countryside.
Journeys which commence outside of Devon and Torbay, including those in Plymouth, are excluded.
Peter Knight, Managing Director of Stagecoach South West, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, calling it an opportunity for residents to “explore new places and try new things” during what is traditionally a quieter month.
Councillor Andrea Davis, Devon County Council’s Deputy Leader, highlighted its role in easing cost-of-living pressures and promoting affordable transportation. Councillor Adam Billings from Torbay Council added that the £1 fares provide “a simple and affordable travel option” to explore local attractions.
The £1 single fares are made possible by Bus Service Improvement Plan funding and are part of broader efforts to provide sustainable and reliable travel. More details on eligible routes and timetables are available on the Travel Devon website.
The scheme complements the ongoing National Bus Fare Cap Scheme, which limits single fares to a maximum of £3 on weekdays and Sundays, offering continued value to travellers throughout the year.
