Hospiscare, the local hospice for Exeter, central and east Devon, is bringing back its hottest fundraiser this October to support patients and families living with terminal illness.
The Firewalk returns for its second year on 23 October, this time in the historic grounds of Bicton College.
The event invites people across Devon to step out of their comfort zone and across a path of burning coals, all to raise vital funds for hospice care.
Hospiscare provides specialist support to more than 2,200 patients and their loved ones each year.
With only 24 per cent of its funding coming from the government, the charity relies heavily on community fundraising to meet the £10 million needed annually for its services.
Participants will be guided by professional firewalk trainers who teach the skills and mindset needed to walk safely across the flames.
Rosie Connor, the first to sign up for last year’s event, took part in honour of her mum, Siobhan, who was cared for by Hospiscare.
“The Firewalk was such a celebration of their work and an amazing way to give back,” she said. “I encourage anyone looking to overcome fear and support local families to take part.”
The Firewalk is open to anyone aged 18 and over. Registration is £30, with a suggested fundraising target of £200 per participant. Alternatively, walkers can choose to pay a one-off fee of £60 without sponsorship.
On the night, all participants will be welcomed with a complimentary hot drink and gourmet burger, provided by Rapid Relief. Those who reach the £200 sponsorship goal will also be rewarded with a celebratory pint, courtesy of Crave.
