In conversation with G2 Legal

With 13 days to go until the DASLS Legal Awards, we speak to G2 Legal – sponsors of the After Party – on long-term partnerships, Exeter’s growing legal scene and the changing priorities of today’s legal professionals.

In conversation with G2 Legal

After more than two decades connecting legal professionals with opportunities across the South West, G2 Legal is stepping into the spotlight - this time with a disco ball.

The national legal recruitment firm is sponsoring the After Party at the 2025 DASLS Legal Awards, bringing their energy, good humour and candidate-first ethos to the biggest night in Devon and Somerset’s legal calendar.

“We’re chuffed,” says Paul Norman, Regional Associate Director at G2 Legal’s Bristol office. “It wasn’t even originally part of the plan - but we think it might be the most memorable part of the whole evening.”

Paul has been with G2 Legal for over 20 years, building lasting relationships with lawyers at every stage of their career. “We’ve placed people as paralegals, then supported them through qualification, and eventually helped them move into senior roles. Many of them become clients later on. That trust is at the heart of what we do.”

With more than 60 staff across the UK and a thriving outpost in Sydney, G2 Legal supports firms of all sizes—whether they’re looking for a newly qualified solicitor or a managing partner. In the South West, Paul and his colleague Lorraine cover everything from high street family practices to Legal 100 firms.

The decision to back DASLS was, in part, a reflection of the strong client ties they’ve built in the region. “We’ve been working in this market for years, and many of our clients and candidates are involved in DASLS already,” says Paul. “It’s the perfect opportunity to meet face-to-face and celebrate what makes the local legal community so special.”

Over the past two decades, G2 Legal has developed a reputation for being friendly, professional, and refreshingly honest. “People appreciate our straight-talking approach,” says Paul. “We won’t try to push someone into a role that isn’t right. If it’s not the right fit, we say so.”

This pragmatic, people-first style has led to long-term partnerships across the board. For firms, G2 Legal brings in-depth market knowledge and access to a wide pool of talent. For candidates, they offer tailored guidance - whether that’s refining a CV, navigating a tricky negotiation, or deciding whether a move is the right one.

“It’s not always about moving jobs,” Paul says. “Sometimes it’s about talking through your options and realising that you’re already in the right place. We’re here to support careers, not just fill roles.”

The South West legal market has changed dramatically since G2 first launched. Hybrid working, evolving salary expectations, and the rise of new practice areas have reshaped what candidates want - and what firms can offer. Paul and his team stay ahead by keeping in close contact with both sides of the table.

“There’s been a huge shift in flexibility and culture,” Paul says. “We speak to managing partners every week, and we understand what candidates are really looking for - and what makes them stay. That insight is what makes us valuable.”

And as for sponsoring the After Party? G2 Legal is already embracing its unofficial role as party-starters. “Our logo is a perfect disco ball shape,” Paul laughs. “We’re playing around with a few visuals. I think it’s going to be fun.”

Fun might just be the operative word. But beneath it is a business built on genuine connection, expertise, and long-term impact. Whether you meet them at the bar or on the dancefloor, you’re in good company.
