7 Spooky and fun days out in Devon this October half-term
Looking for half-term inspiration? From spooky trails and pumpkin parties to creative workshops and live theatre, there’s plenty happening across Devon to keep the whole family entertained this October.
1. EXETER PHOENIX
25 – 31 October
This half term, Exeter Phoenix is packed with creative fun for all ages. There's family theatre with Airport Alien (27 October, 2pm), a brand-new show full of puppetry, dance, and laughter. When ArVi the Alien lands on Earth in 1974, she must navigate a strange new world in search of happiness. Perfect for ages 5–11, but great fun for the whole family.
The multi-arts venue is also hosting plenty of courses and workshops, including Your Spooky Face / My Spooky Face (28 October, 2pm–4.30pm) which will see you create hauntingly fun portraits with a friend or family member using playful art techniques. There's also Sketch a Skeleton (30 October, 2pm–4.30pm), where you'll draw the resident “Skelly” and learn the art of anatomical sketching with a spooky twist.
2. CREALY THEME PARK & RESORT
25 October – 3 November
Crealy is going all out for its biggest Spook-Fest yet! Alongside 60+ rides and attractions, enjoy scare mazes, pumpkin-packed fun, and live shows. This year includes a brand-new maze for little ones, the Bump in the Night magic and illusion show, and spooky new hotel rooms to explore. From tiny trick-or-treaters to thrill-seeking teens, there’s something for everyone.
3. DRIZZLE’S PUMPKIN PARTY
31 October | The Donkey Sanctuary, Sidmouth
Celebrate Drizzle the donkey’s birthday with a pumpkin-themed trail around the sanctuary. Follow clues, find hidden gourds, and win a small prize - all while helping support the sanctuary’s rescue work.
4. PENNYWELL PUMPKINS
27 September – 2 November
By day, enjoy the Pumpkin Festival with trails, games, live music, and marshmallow toasting. After dark, experience Pumpkin Nights with festoon lights, fire pits, acoustic sets, and pumpkin-picking under the stars. Add in hot food, sweet treats, and photo-perfect backdrops - it’s autumn magic at its best.
5. CANONTEIGN FALLS
25 October – 3 November
Follow a spooky code-cracking trail through the woods, spot fairies in the ferns, and get creative with pumpkin colouring. Fancy dress is encouraged, with prizes for the best costumes, plus a Halloween selfie booth to capture the fun. All set against the stunning backdrop of one of England’s highest waterfalls.

6. RAMM (ROYAL ALBERT MEMORIAL MUSEUM)
28 – 30 October
Got a history buff in the family? RAMM is hosting three hands-on activity days this half term, which will see kids make statues, re-enact epic scene, and have lots of fun along the way. Echoes of Olympus – A Greek Adventure at RAMM is on 28 October; Legions of Rome: A Roman Adventure at RAMM is on 29 October; Mysteries of the Nile: An Ancient Egyptian Adventure at RAMM.
7. EXETER CATHEDRAL
25 October – 1 November
Step into Narnia at Exeter Cathedral and mark 75 years of C.S. Lewis’ classic tale, The Lion, The With and the Wardrobe. Enjoy craft activities, from decorating Turkish Delight boxes to making animal masks and completing a themed quiz. Tickets £5 per child (includes activities and a gift), available from the Welcome Desk - no booking required.
