1. MARKET

Exeter Quayside Farmers’ Market Christmas Edition: 20 December

The popular monthly market rounds off its first year with a festive special at Exeter Quayside. Browse stalls from over 30 local producers, enjoy live music, and soak up the seasonal atmosphere. There’ll be a crêpe wagon, face painting, and plenty of warming food and drinks to keep everyone cosy. 9am–1pm, Pizza Terracina.

2. CINEMA 

The Polar Express + PJ Party: 20 December

Children are invited to arrive in their cosiest festive pyjamas for this special Kids’ Club screening of the seasonal classic. Follow a young boy as he boards the Polar Express on Christmas Eve, embarking on an unforgettable journey to the North Pole and discovering the true spirit of Christmas along the way. Midday at Exeter Picturehouse.

3. FAMILY

The Jolly Christmas Postman: On now until 28 December

Exeter Northcott teams up once again with PaddleBoat Theatre Company for a joyful stage adaptation of The Jolly Christmas Postman by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. Packed with music, gentle humour and interactive moments, this charming production is perfect for children aged 3–8 and their families. Expect puppetry, live music and plenty of festive magic. Showings at 10.30am, 12pm, 2pm & 4pm.

4.FAMILY

Ernie and the Sea of Ice: On now until 28 December 

Quirk return for their 22nd year with a brilliantly inventive festive favourite. This playful retelling of Ernest Shackleton’s epic Antarctic expedition blends physical comedy, clever storytelling and plenty of penguins. Heartwarming and funny. Exeter Phoenix, 2pm & 4.30pm

5. FOOD

Festive Dining at The Ivy Exeter: On now until 31 December 

Celebrate the season in style at The Ivy Exeter with its Festive Set Menu, available until the end of December (£55 for two courses / £60 for three). Highlights include turkey ballotine with all the trimmings, pan-fried sea bass with wild mushrooms and piggies in blankets. Desserts range from classic Christmas pudding to the signature Ivy Chocolate Bombe with hot caramel sauce. A perfect spot for festive get-togethers with family and friends.
