Supper clubs, cheese and wine nights: 4 foodie events happening in Exeter this April

SUPPER CLUBS AT SACRED GROUNDS

The plant-based and oh-so photogenic cafe nestled in The Real McCoy hosts Open Kitchen, intimate candle-lit supper clubs every two months. The evening events celebrate all things seasonal, plant-based and delicious. Diners tuck into four imaginative courses - February’s supper club featured smoked Jerusalem artichoke and shiitake mushroom tortellini with lemon tuile, burnt pear and walnut cream - plus table nibbles and cocktails and wine. The next Open Kitchen event is on 26 April, and will be particularly spring-like! These atmospheric long-table dining experiences always sell out, so get a wriggle on if you fancy attending.

Also look out for their seasonal evening makers’ Fayres which welcome the change in each season, showcasing a curated selection of artists, makers, and designers within the arcade space under twinkling lights. Expect street street food, cocktails and live music. The Summer Fayre will be held in June (date TBC).

CULTURE BITES

The Pool House Restaurant & Bar at Lympstone Manor, Michael Caines’ MBE luxury country house hotel in Devon, has recently announced its food and culture events for the year ahead. From international wine dinner experiences and sushi and sake nights to collaborations with local artists, these events mark an ongoing cultural calendar for the hotel. Coming up soon is Meet The Artist with Carol Peace (£75 pp) on 17 April. Beginning with tea and coffee, art enthusiasts will enjoy a guided tour of the Lympstone estate, taking in a curated Sculpture Trail adorned with 53 captivating sculptures by sculptor artist Carol Peace. Following the tour, guests are invited to The Pool House Bar and Restaurant for a fresh lunch accompanied by conversation with the artist who will offer attendees a deeper understanding of her inspirations and techniques.

Exploring the Flavours of Australia: A Wine Dinner Experience (£115 pp) on 8 May embarks on a flavourful journey through the vineyards of Australia. Guests are invited to a four-course wine and dinner experience. The event will be hosted by Operations Director Steve Edwards who is himself a third generation Australian and passionate not only about wines from his native country but has worked with the wine team here at Lympstone Manor to develop the wine cellar since the hotel opened in 2017. Steve has chosen a short but very well considered selection of wines to match the fantastic menu that Michael has put together inspired by some truly classic Australian cuisine!

SAY CHEESE

Join the passionate and knowledgeable cheesemongers in Cow & Cacao at Darts Farm for their Cheese Club on 18 April (7-8.30pm). They will lead you through an informal tasting of six delicious farmhouse cheeses tasting great right now and three paired tipples from their cellar.
