The Exeter Specsavers team have supported local people for 40 years, including by giving back to the community through fundraising and charity events.

One of Exeter’s longest-serving businesses has celebrated 40 years of providing care to the community.

Specsavers, on the High Street, marked the occasion with balloons, cakes, and giveaways for customers. The store first opened in 1986 and has since grown to employ nearly 80 staff.

“It was wonderful to share our 40-year celebrations with colleagues and customers,” said Emma Denham, store retail director.

“We’ve seen [customers] who come to us as young people and now they have children of their own who come here.

“Over the years, we’ve provided opportunities for colleagues to develop their skills, gain professional qualifications, and progress in their careers.

“From those taking their first steps into the optical and audiology professions to becoming experienced team members continuing to develop their expertise, supporting people and helping them achieve their ambitions remains at the heart of the store.”

The store has received several accolades over its 40 year history. Store colleague Nicola McLeod was recently awarded Doug Perkins Dispensing Optician of the Year.

The Exeter Specsavers team have also previously organised fundraising and charity events, including campaigns for Breast Cancer Awareness, Dementia UK, and the Exmouth-based Deaf Academy.

Emma Ginger, Specsavers Exeter’s ophthalmic director, said: “Our 40th anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate how far [we] have come, while also looking forward to the next chapter.

“Eye and hearing care continue to evolve, with advances in technology, clinical knowledge and customer care creating new opportunities for professionals. We are committed to ensuring that colleagues continue to have the support, training, and opportunities they need to develop and build rewarding careers.

“As Specsavers Exeter looks towards the next 40 years, our focus remains firmly on local people and customers - continuing to provide high-quality eye and hearing care while supporting colleagues, nurturing future talent, and playing an active role in the local community.”
