Stagecoach South West visit Lift Barton Hill for Careers Day
Stagecoach South West visited Lifton Barton Hill School in Torquay to inspire Year 5 and 6 students about careers in the bus industry during their annual careers day.
The event aimed to support young people in developing awareness of different job roles and to spark excitement about their future pathways.
During the visit, Stagecoach representatives introduced students to roles including drivers, engineers, customer service personnel, and administrative staff. Students could ask questions, explore the skills required, and tour one of the new electric buses set to operate locally in the coming months.
One pupil said: “Your job is epic. I didn't think I would like things about coaches and buses, but you guys proved me wrong. You guys took time out of your job and time to speak to me and friends, and it was so cool. Thank you so much, I might want to become a bus driver. I loved how you told me about how everything worked and it was cool.”

Jay Clark, Torbay Operations Manager at Stagecoach South West, said: “It was great to meet with young people at Lift Barton Hill School during their careers day to share insights about the diverse jobs available in the bus industry. Engaging with the local community is a core focus for us at Stagecoach and inspiring the next generation is part of that.”
Jane Mosley, Assistant Principal at Lift Barton Hill School, added: “This was the second event of its kind at Lift Barton Hill and we were delighted to welcome Stagecoach South West. Whilst we are continually talking to the children about the importance of education, different career paths and their aspirations, Stagecoach were able to do what we cannot and that is provide an authentic insight into the world of work.”
The visit was part of Stagecoach South West’s ongoing commitment to engage with local communities and encourage young people to consider a range of career options within the bus industry.
