Rain and showers continue from Thursday 22 January to Sunday 25 January in south-west England, with temperatures near average and breezy conditions across Devon.

Torbay is forecast to experience changeable weather from Thursday 22 January to Sunday 25 January 2026, the Met Office indicates. Atlantic fronts will bring frequent outbreaks of rain or showers, particularly affecting coastal and western areas, while some drier and brighter interludes are possible at times.

Temperatures stay mild for late January, with daytime highs typically 8–10°C in Torbay, feeling cooler in the wind and rain. Overnight lows generally 6–8°C, with limited frost risk in lowland areas. Winds will be moderate to brisk from the south or southeast, stronger on exposed coasts but no severe gales widely expected.

Thursday 22 January

Cloudy with outbreaks of rain or showers, some heavy at times. Brighter spells may develop later in places. Highs around 9°C across Torbay (feeling like 6–7°C in the wind). Breezy, with winds up to 20–25 mph from the south/southeast.

Friday 23 January

Further showers or longer spells of rain, heaviest over hills and western coasts. Some drier periods in sheltered eastern parts of Devon. Highs of 8–9°C, with a chilly feel in brisk winds.

Saturday 24 January

Scattered showers continue, some persistent or heavy. Drier and brighter intervals possible, especially in the east. Temperatures around 8°C, feeling colder in the wind.

Sunday 25 January

Showery rain likely, particularly in the west, with brighter spells elsewhere. Highs of 7–9°C, remaining unsettled with moderate breezes.

The outlook suggests the unsettled, mild pattern may persist into late January, though there is some uncertainty about a potential colder shift later in the month. For now, Atlantic air keeps conditions damp and relatively mild across the south-west.

In Torbay, expect wet roads and reduced visibility in showers - drivers should take care, especially on coastal routes. No major weather warnings are currently highlighted for Devon during this period.

Flood alert update

As of last night (21 January 2026), three flood alerts remain active for Torbay, according to the Environment Agency's check-for-flooding service:

  • River Teign area – flooding is possible (updated 12.36pm 21 January).
  • South Devon coast from Start Point to Dawlish Warren – flooding is possible (updated 1.06pm 21 January).
  • South Devon Estuaries – flooding is possible (updated 3.29pm 21 January).

No flood warnings (flooding expected) or severe warnings are in force. The Environment Agency advises that some flooding is possible, with residents in low-lying or coastal areas advised to monitor the situation and to avoid walking or driving through flood water.
