Drugs dog joins police operation at Torquay pubs

Officers in Torquay have carried out a drugs operation across pubs in the town, supported by a specialist police dog.

The Pubs Against Drugs operation took place on Friday 12 December and involved officers visiting seven licensed premises, alongside Devon & Cornwall Police’s passive drugs dog Skye and members of the force’s licensing team.

Police said a number of stop searches were carried out, along with drug-wipe testing in pub toilet areas. Three people were searched and small quantities of suspected cannabis and cocaine were recovered. Investigations are now under way.

Inspector Rob Harvey said the operation was aimed at keeping people safe during nights out in Torquay.

He said: “Numerous stop searches took place along with drug-wipe testing in pub toilet areas. Three people were searched and quantities of both suspected cannabis and cocaine were recovered, with investigations now underway into those people.

“Thank you to everyone who spoke to officers during the operation, this was an extremely positive and collaborative operation contributing to safer nights out in Torquay.”

Police said they will continue to work closely with licensees and pub staff to keep venues safe for the local community.

Inspector Harvey added: “We would like to reassure the public we will continue to make these kind of licensed premises visits on a regular basis and will not tolerate drug dealing.”

Anyone with information about drug dealing is asked to contact police on 101 or via the Devon & Cornwall Police website. Information can also be given anonymously through Crimestoppers.
