FOOD

4–5 October

Powderham Food Festival

Powderham Castle hosts a two-day foodie celebration with over 150 local producers, live demos, tastings, and family fun. From sweet treats to hearty bites, this autumnal festival is a showcase of the South West’s best food and drink. Kids under 16 go free, entry for adults is just £5, and dogs are welcome. 

THEATRE

4 October

Austentatious

A cast of improvisers conjure up a brand-new “lost” Jane Austen novel every night, based on audience suggestions. Expect witty characters, romantic scandals, drawing-room drama - and always a happy ending. Regency chaos with a comic twist. 7.30pm, Princess Theatre, Torquay.

TALK

4 October

Simon Yates: Pleasure and Pain

Legendary mountaineer Simon Yates shares stories from recent expeditions across the globe - from South America to the Himalayas. Expect gripping tales of survival, including a dramatic fall in Tajikistan, food shortages, and a fight for safety. An evening of endurance, danger, and adventure. 7.45pm at Barnfield Theatre. 

KIDS

4 October – 2 November

Leap Then Look at Alibi

Immanuel Hall transforms into an interactive playground where everything can be touched, built, and rearranged. Kids are invited to explore sculptures, roll colourful objects, climb, and create together. A hands-on exhibition where play and imagination lead the way.

FILM

3–9 October

Stevie

Cillian Murphy stars as a reform school headteacher fighting to hold things together during one intense day. With standout performances from Little Simz and Emily Watson, this adaptation of Shy captures fragility, anger, and hope in a 90s school on the brink. Directed by Tim Mielants. 7.15pm on Saturday and Sunday, Exeter Phoenix.
