Exeter City have added to their defensive options with the season-long loan signing of centre back Jack Taylor from League One side Stevenage, subject to EFL approval.
The 21-year-old, who stands at 6ft 4, becomes manager Matt Taylor's eighth signing of the summer transfer window, arriving as City look to bolster a position the club has identified as short of numbers.
Taylor made his way up through the youth ranks at Eastbourne Borough and Chelsea before joining Sutton United's academy at 16. He signed his first professional contract there in February 2024 and went on to make 45 appearances for the club, before moving to Stevenage on a permanent deal in January 2026 for a five-figure fee. He has already featured for Stevenage this season, starting in their EFL Cup tie against Reading in August.
Speaking about the move, Exeter City manager Matt Taylor pointed to the club's need for defensive reinforcements and the player's profile as key factors in bringing him to Devon.
"We are short in the centre half department currently and he is a fantastic size with a great profile and he did really well to break through at Sutton United to earn a move to League One level," he said.
He also thanked Stevenage for entrusting City with the next stage of the defender's development. "We are pleased that Stevenage have trusted us with this part of his development and to help him work on his game and improve as a player," he said. "He adds a profile, size and physicality which will add to the group and he seems like a player that is willing to learn and is excited about what this year will bring."
Taylor will wear the number 6 shirt for the remainder of the season.
