A double from Jack Aitchison and late strikes by Akeel Higgins and Jayden Wareham gave Exeter City a superb 4-0 victory over Wycombe Wanderers in the FA Cup.

Money has been on the mind at St James Park all season, and a place in the Third Round of the world’s oldest cup competition could be the financial fillip the Grecians need in a tough campaign, on and off the pitch.

City custodian Joe Whitworth made a fine save in an even start to the game before the deadlock was broken in spectacular fashion, Aitchison steering a wonderful header into the top corner on 40 minutes.

After the break, the Grecians earned a cushion on the scoreboard when Higgins threaded a delightful pass into the path of Aitchison, who calmly rounded the advancing goalkeeper and slotted into the empty net.

Higgins added to the portfolio of fine finishes, curling a lovely strike into the bottom corner ten minutes from time and Wareham completed the fun with a tap-in after terrific approach play from Ilmari Niskanen.

The Third Round draw will be live on TNT Sport at 6.40pm tonight.
