The final objective for all clubs in the Vertu Trophy is to play on the famed, hallowed turf of Wembley.
In the early stages of this competition, managers across Leagues One and Two undoubtedly use it as an opportunity to give players across the squad some game-time, especially youngsters breaking through in the game.
Exeter City have juggled their assets with precision in the Trophy group stages, including seven changes for the Tuesday night trip to Newport County, and it worked again for the Grecians.
Ed Turns won the game with a fabulous strike five minutes into the second half and City can now look forward to the knockout stages of the Trophy, which takes place in the first week of December and the Grecians ill learn their opponents in Thursday’s draw.
City assistant manager Kevin Nicholson told the club website: "It was a professional performance with moments of top quality play.
"We need to be more ruthless and I'd like us to score more goals when we are on top but there are not too many negatives in the performance. In the second half we created some really good one-touch football to carve through them."
