Exeter City Women finished their pre-season run on a high

Exeter City Women completed their pre-season campaign with a 100% record after a dramatic 4-3 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the SEAH Stadium in Telford.

A Sophie Gillies hat-trick and a late strike from Georgia Vaccaro proved decisive, with City holding off a spirited Wolves fightback. Gillies struck twice in the first half, capitalising on sharp link-up play and defensive errors, before Wolves hit back after the break through Jade Cross and Louanne Worsey.

Gillies restored the lead with a powerful header from a swift counter, completing her treble, but Wolves kept the contest alive with a late penalty from Beth Merrick. Vaccaro’s stoppage-time finish off the post ultimately settled the tie, preserving Exeter’s perfect pre-season following earlier wins over Bristol Rovers and MAP.

City now turn their focus to next Sunday’s league opener away at Cheltenham Town, aiming to carry their strong summer form into the new campaign.
