New season, new Centre Spot

The original flooring has been restored

Supporters heading back to St James Park for the start of the new season will notice a number of ongoing improvements to the Centre Spot bar, which is currently undergoing a thoughtful refurbishment aimed at boosting capacity, comfort, and atmosphere.

Although the project is still in progress, several key upgrades have already been completed. One of the most striking features is the restoration of the original flooring — believed to date back to 1908, when the building first served as a school.

The bar has also been fitted with new seating, enhancing the space for visitors and increasing its overall capacity.

In a move to improve ventilation and natural light, previously fixed sash windows have been replaced with opening units, transforming the area into a brighter, more welcoming environment.

The Real Ale bar has now been relocated to the far end of the room, with further changes planned in the coming weeks. Club officials have acknowledged there is still work to be done, including introducing more Exeter City memorabilia and character into the space.

The club is collaborating with the ourMuseum team to develop themed artwork and historical displays that celebrate Exeter City’s proud heritage.

The long-term ambition is to turn the Centre Spot bar into a more inclusive and flexible venue, capable of hosting a variety of events beyond match days. In fact, this Saturday’s opening League One fixture was screened live in the bar, providing another way for fans to enjoy the game together.

While the transformation is ongoing, the club has thanked fans for their patience and support — and promises more updates as the work continues.
