Exeter City have completed the signing of Ryan Rydel on a season-long loan from Stockport County.

The 24-year-old left wing-back arrives at St James Park as Gary Caldwell’s third summer addition after Johnly Yfeko and Luca Woodhouse. Rydel played a key role in Stockport’s rise up the leagues, making 104 appearances across five seasons and helping them to promotions from both the National League and League Two.

“I can’t wait to get started and play in front of the fans,” Rydel told the Exeter City website. “As soon as I spoke to the gaffer and heard how he sees me fitting into the team, I knew this was the right move. Wing-back suits my game perfectly — I love getting forward and putting balls into the box.”

Caldwell praised Rydel’s all-round game: “Ryan is someone we believe is proven at this level. He can cover the whole left flank and brings real attacking intent as well as defensive discipline — exactly what we needed.”

Vertu Trophy group-stage draw

Meanwhile, City will face Cardiff City and Newport County in Southern Group A of the 2025/26 Vertu Trophy. The U21 side they will face will be decided in a draw on 26 June, with Arsenal, Aston Villa, Brighton & Hove Albion, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur or West Ham United all in the mix.

The Grecians will play two matches at home and one away, with all Vertu Trophy fixtures broadcast live on Sky Sports.
