Exeter City Women have confirmed the signing of experienced central midfielder Leah Burridge, subject to FA registration.
The 28-year-old joins from fellow Women’s National League side Oxford United, where she served as captain. The move marks a homecoming for Burridge, who first joined Exeter’s Girls’ Development Centre at the age of ten.
“I fell in love with football being at this club,” said Burridge. “So it’s nice coming back to a place where I know I’m going to get this feeling. The club’s got lots going for it, it’s exciting, it’s got a great vision, and I’m excited to do the full circle.”
Burridge made her senior debut with Yeovil Town in 2015 during their Women’s Super League campaign, before going on to play for Plymouth Argyle, Bridgwater United, and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
City co-manager Abbie Britton said she was thrilled to bring in a player of Burridge’s calibre:
“I’m really excited to have someone with so much experience as Leah join us. She is someone I have admired for a while – her leadership qualities and knowledge of the division will be hugely beneficial for us.
“To bring her in really shows the ambition we have for the upcoming season.”
The signing comes as City gear up for another push in the FA Women’s National League Division One South West, following strong support from the club and record-breaking attendances at St James Park last season.
