Three Exeter Chiefs players have been named in England’s latest training squad - including Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, who is pushing for a summer return after shoulder surgery.

Feyi-Waboso joins teammates Henry Slade and Richard Capstick in the 33-man squad selected by Steve Borthwick for a two-day camp at England’s training base at Pennyhill Park.

The group is preparing for England’s summer fixture against a France XV at Twickenham on Saturday 21 June, and it could mark Feyi-Waboso’s return to action, six months after he was sidelined with a shoulder injury.

The 22-year-old winger underwent surgery earlier this year after a delay due to both medical complications and uncertainty over the club-country medical pathway, a situation that cost him a potential British & Irish Lions place.

Now, according to Borthwick, Feyi-Waboso is “straining at the leash” as he builds towards a full return.

“He trained on the field with the team for elements of the session and did some modified training,” Borthwick said after the camp.

Feyi-Waboso is yet to play again for Exeter this season and remains a doubt for the club’s final game against Sale on 31 May. But with his enhanced RFU contract, Borthwick is expected to have a say in whether the winger features before the international window.

The England squad for the training camp does not include players selected for the British & Irish Lions, or players from Northampton and Bath, who are involved in European semi-finals this weekend.

Also included in the squad is back row Richard Capstick, who has been in strong domestic form, and Henry Slade, returning to the England fold after being omitted from recent selections.

The match against France at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, is part of England’s preparations for their summer tour to Argentina in July - a tour Feyi-Waboso is now firmly in contention for.
